In a significant step toward digital innovation, the City of Calgary launched their Wave Tech Centre last month to explore how new and emerging technology can be leveraged to improve the lives of people in their community.
At the Centre's launch, dozens of innovators (myself included) were invited to come and present our research on potential applications of ATSC3.0 technology for developing safer, smarter, and more connected cities. Over the course of the event, we discussed how ATSC3.0 could be used in emergency digital paging systems for first responders, broadcast positioning systems to complement GPS, digital signage for transit facilities, remote education solutions for digital equity, and IoT software distribution.
ATSC 3.0's future looks exceptionally bright, with adoption growing throughout North America and beyond. This convergence of broadcast and broadband technologies is creating a more resilient communications infrastructure that benefits public safety, education, transportation, and numerous other sectors.
The Wave Tech Centre positions Calgary at the forefront of innovation, and I look forward to the remarkable applications that will emerge from this pioneering initiative.
