Prototyping and NPI

At Device Solutions, we help bridge the gap between concept and creation. With decades of experience in prototyping and NPI (New Product Introduction), our team helps innovators move quickly and confidently from idea to reality.

How Device Solutions Supports Your Product Development Efforts Through Prototyping and NPI

Prototyping is about more than building a one-off model; it's about accelerating learning, reducing risk, and getting your product closer to one that works in the real world. Our engineering team kicks off every project by collaborating with your team to understand the core functions your concept needs to demonstrate, whether it's wireless communication, sensor integration, power management, or user interaction. By coming up with a shared definition of success, we can rapidly translate those requirements into a functional, testable model.

Capabilities

  • Rapid prototyping of embedded systems (microcontrollers, sensors, wireless modules)

  • Custom PCB design and assembly

  • RF circuit and antenna design

  • Firmware development and hardware bring-up

  • Wireless communication validation (cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRa, and more)

  • Sensor integration and signal conditioning

  • Mechanical enclosures for functional models

  • Short-run builds for field trials or demos

Our Prototyping and NPI Process

Step 1: Clarify Requirements

We help you turn ideas into actionable engineering goals.

  • Collaborate on early-stage design concepts

  • Define essential features and performance benchmarks

  • Identify potential technical risks before development begins

  • See Feasibility and Risk Reduction

Step 2: Build Prototypes 1 and 2

We create reliable models that prove your concept works and support fast cycles of learning and improvement.

  • Anticipate certification and compliance needs

  • Optimize power, performance, and reliability early

  • Evaluate component choices for future sourcing and manufacturability

  • Design and assemble custom PCBs and embedded systems

  • Develop firmware for real-time processing and communication

  • Integrate wireless, sensors, and user interfaces as needed

  • Deliver short-run builds for lab testing or field trials

  • Enhance prototypes based on test results and feedback

  • Provide documentation and design assets that transition to production teams

Step 3: Complete NPI

NPI includes running alpha and beta trials (with our team in a support role), followed by yield ramp and iteration. We call this phase NPI because, given the trial structure and yield realities, it is rarely the final hardware spin.

The result is a production-ready design, validated through real trials.
